On friday, immediately after the interview, i met up with my office (kranji) colleagues for a pre-birthday celebration of colleague M (if you dont know who she is, scroll down =X).Sunday, May 31, 2009 But since the photos for that night is not out yet, i shall blog about it in the next entry :) For the outing with my colleagues, we went at Jurong Point, a place i have not stepped in since... Army days. And that was a good one year plus ago? Apparently, during his period, the shopping centre has undergone a massive facelift and expanded into one ultimate stop for shopping. But since friday night was mainly dinner, i didn't had a chance to shop at all. And i knew i had to go back. Therefore, in a meetup organised by yours truly, i managed to reunite finally with the gals (Grace and SF) and guy (Kenny). And the destination... JURONG POINT :) haha. ![]() Must admit that we all are "northerners" so travelling all the way to Boon Lay was a real big effort. But i guess i have good foresight afterall since ALL FOUR of us managed to get something :) (haha, GML all will say i'm always self-boosting my ego again!) Within the first floor, Gracie has already purchased two/three items! haha. For myself, though i expected myself to buy more stuff to "reward" myself for the past week, managed to still buy one nice t-shirt! After an extensive coverage of almost all shops there, we settled for dinner at Bentobox, before blue-toothing our way back home. haha. Jloe || 7:34 AM || 0 comments
Somehow i felt i've vanished somewhere this past week! haha.Saturday, May 30, 2009 For friends i have not told yet, i actually did not go to work (at Kranji) this week. Instead, i have been travelling - in the opposite direction, no less - to Queenstown, Alexandra Hospital. And the reason... interestingly, an attachment with the Pharmacy over there :) It was a really impromptu decision, which thankfully i was granted leave to go for. The story is this - YH, a friend i met when i was in army, is working at the AH pharmacy for sometime already. I actually contacted him (after sometime) after knowing from another army friend that he was entering NUS Pharmacy just like me. Having talked briefly to him before, i decided to facebook (the wonders of facebook re-enacting) him and before i knew it, he hitched me up for an exposure attachment to AH Pharmacy for one whole week. Funny Little Thing 1: This friend of mine, YH, will actually be working his last week there at the AH Pharmacy. Which means, if i contacted him any later (which was VERY PROBABLE, considering what a procrastinator i am) i would have forsaken this VERY IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY - you will know why i say it's "very important" later. Funny Little Thing 2: Turns out, i wasn't the only attachee to their pharmacy department for the week. I had company, in the form of a same-batch same-age AJCian! He was from another triple science class which i never knew back in college. His doctor friend recommended him for the attachment as he was trying to decide on which university course - and ultimately career - to embark on. His name is QX, and thankfully he was a nice person, very interesting to talk to since we both ran along similar frequencies. hahaha. Back to the attachment proper, since we were year ZERO students of Pharmacy, we basically listened and asked questions most of the time during our attachment to many of the pharmacists in the department who were performing different tasks within the hospital setting. We attended clinics, walked rounds and had many chances to talk to the pharmacists there to get a very good idea of what the pharmacist career is about. Funny Little Thing 3: I honestly never knew much about Pharmacy before the attachment. And i probably liked it because i felt it was a better course than the generic Life Science course. But after i know what the profession is about, i think i really kinda like it. Just that it's a tough profession, no doubt (can't slack! haha...) Which brings me on to something EVEN BIGGER. After my first day of attachment, i met Ah Meng at Tanjong Pagar for our monthly meetup. Since my attachment agenda ended early, and that i reached early, i had to walk around before he reached. And when i was strolling the busy streets of Tanjong Pagar (it was finish-work time), i received a call from an unknown number which turned out to be from a govt body (shall not mention here) INVITING ME TO A SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEW WITH THEM ON FRIDAY! Funny Little Thing 4: I know i hardly mentioned this to anyone around me, but i actually - for the first time in three years - signed up for scholarships during the open period. I didn't tell anyone since i kinda never expected that i would ever get any chances. Furthermore, all govt scholarships are applied through the one consolidated system, i thought my chances were over when the main govt body rejected my application. But it seems I'M WRONG! And from the call onwards, it was what occupied my brain from then on. (more on it later) Very ecstatically, i was able to share this piece of news directly in person with Ah Meng :) haha. Ah Meng, being a hot candidate for scholarships two years back, have had considerable experiences handling all these interviews so it was really great to have him to talk to about what i was soon to be going through. Besides eating at Coffee Club, we literally repeated EXACTLY the whole ritual of what we did last month (read: this). Even though scholarship stuff was the main topic of the night, we still had an amazingly interesting personal conversation the whole night. To Meng, if he is reading this, apologies for constantly talking about the scholarship thingy, i really couldn't take my mind off it! hahaha Funny Little Thing 5: I had lots of thing to tell/ask Meng but the scholarship thing just REALLY happened so unexpectedly i really felt so shocked and so we just sorta kept talking about it. But i think i still managed to tell him what i wanted to haha... With regards to the scholarship interview, i've informed quite a number of friends around me that i really started to feel if i tell anymore, i'll really lao kui if i screw up the interview. haha. So REALLY SORRY to all my beloved friends FOR NOT TELLING YOU THIS! =X Trust me, i had you in my mind all this time as my mental support in preparation for the day of the interview :) Funny Little Thing 6: Rmb i said the attachment was an important opportunity. This is why! It so happened that the week i was set to go for a sorta unplanned attachment to AH Pharmacy, i also got the chance of a scholarship interview. SO TIMELY RIGHT??? Plus, at the pharmacy attachment, i got the best preparation i needed for the interview by talking to all the pharmacist there. [P.S: thanks to all the pharmacists there!] Still, the past week had been torturous for me to say the least. No doubt i was nervous and excited, but i was also worried sick. I couldn't eat well and neither could i sleep well. So technically i believe i have lost ALL THE WEIGHT (the very hard-earned 1kg) i gained in the past month. Though i must stress, i tried by best to suppress the disbelief, paranoia and worry i had in myself by thinking of Krys' Glambert-ish advice. (Yeah, i have my own swagger! and who cares who others think about me right!) haha. And trust me, the week past by SO FREAKING slow i really believe i will faint on friday from the worry and lack of energy (little food, little sleep). But thankfully friday approached and before i knew i was in front of a panel of 3 interviewees. The interview went pretty fine - maybe a few hiccups here and there which i thought i could have answered better (but whatever! forget about it!!!! haha) - since they posed pharmacy-related questions which of course, thanks to the attachment, i hoped i managed to give convincing answers based on the understanding i've gained. Funny Little Thing 7: Before the interview, i talked to Krys and even the other selected applicants for the interview. I think the more i talk, the more calm i become! haha. Funny Little Thing 8: Amongst all the questions they asked, the most bewildering question i was asked was "Amongst your three brothers, who do you think is the most interesting?". *DETAILS OF THIS AND THE REST I SHALL LEAVE IT AS STORY-TELLING WHEN I SEE U :) hahaha Now that the interview's over, i can finally breathe, eat and sleep without a worry! haha Right here i wanna shout-out a BIG BIG THANK YOU to these special few: Meng, Fio, (my ex-boss) Ms Yv, and Krys :) - Thanks for the talk, advice, and encouragement. Without your help, i don't think i will ever be able to go through the interview the way i did.and to all my other friends who believe in me. I can't thank you all enough :) Whatever the outcome is, i know i've done my best! P.S: I really have "vanished" the past week! Updates coming up!!! :) Jloe || 10:33 PM || 0 comments
Ok things are shaping up :), and it probably had to do with the ALLEN win on American Idol haha.Saturday, May 23, 2009 Since the guy-next-door from Arkansas, Krys and i have been talking NON-STOP about it (she can't over the fact her Glambert didn't win - and i hate the term "Glambert" haha) But i LOVE the Allen win - UNDERDOGS rule! hahaha Anyway, meet up with Krys for simple dinner at her home area, Upper Thomson. Kinda the hangout nowadays between us huh.. hahaha. Thanks to krys, i take ALOT more buses now. I usually take buses 132, 165, 166 if i wanna get there. And thanks to krys (thank god i know her), i know how to NUS by bus - and it's a fast route! - which is so good that i found out before school starts cause travelling by MRT would be a killer. I met Krys today afternoon as well. I went for the NUS Science Open House this whole day (more thoughts on that later), and after it, before meeting SF and Gracie, i thought since i would be bypassing Upper Thomson, i can drop by her house to grab some "reading material" haha. And thanks to her again, i know how to get to Dhoby Ghaut from Upper Thomson - it's bus 132 or 167! (i actually remember! i keep forgetting things now! haha) Ok, back to NUS Science Open House, main event for me for the day (lol). I actually never really cared, until Maxim was talking about it and i felt very shameful that i was starting school soon and i have NO REAL CLUE what my pharmacy course entails. So i met him, and we attended the talks all the way from 10am to 3pm. But i'm quite glad i went cause it make me aware of more course-related stuff as well as career-related stuff. But the thought of school starting is both exciting and scary at the same time. Exciting is meeting new people. Not so exciting is the possibility of actually not being able to make alot of new friends (touch wood!) and the fact that i have to attend camps. Camp experience has never been good for me, but well, shouldn't think too much, we (me) should take it as it goes... haha Anyway, after the open house, i met krys (as i mentioned) briefly before i left promptly to meet gals - SF and Gracie at Plaza Singapura - since i have not met them proper for ages. We ate at PS, and walked aimlessly before settling down at Macdonald's for deserts where we talked about stuff in life etc. It was quite engaging cause we left super thristy after that and moved on to Taka for drinks. Simple but good. haha. and we took some photos (though still not proper CLEAR ones, the "curse" of my brown hair! haha) ![]() me and gals ![]() funny photo haha (we were trying to fit everyone in and ended up like we're peeking into the photo) well, things are shaping up as i said, and next week shaping up to be a totally different "work" week for me. more on that next time! P.S: Thank God things are shaping up BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY! 14 JUNE! hahaha. Jloe || 10:57 PM || 0 comments
Short updates again:Monday, May 18, 2009 1) Met Kenny briefly on Tuesday to pass him my scandinavian songs :) 2) Met Ter-weeds on Thurs for "Angels (Me) & Demons (him - haha)". Very interesting movie - i want to read the book!!! 3) Met Sei-ye Des on Saturday as a mini-commemoration of his 24th birthday! Happy birthday once again! 4) Met up with JJ today at IMM for dinner - he has gained SERIOUS WEIGHT on his tummy area! haha. WHY CAN"T I BE LIKE ME AND GAIN WEIGHT SO EASILY!!! haha. Ok, random thoughts again: 1) I've been following American Idol Season 8 very closely this time. And i'm pretty sure Adam Lambert will win, but my heart is with the "heartless" KRIS! His cover of kanye west's song was the bomb, best of the season, without a doubt. KRIS SHOULD JUST WIN BECAUSE OF THAT SONG. (Krys will kill me when she reads this =X). But in fairness, ADAM SHOULD WIN for consistency and "presumed" awesomeness throughout the season. 2) Life is very mundane recently. Though i feel happy meeting all friends, i kinda need a little extra-licious dose of FUN. I feel like getting high - clubbing, getting drunk, bungee-jumping (maybe not), going overseas, whatever it is. But I"M NOT GETTING ANY. Yet. Maybe if KRIS ALLEN wins American Idol 8, i might get it. SO KRIS, PLS WIN! 3) Shall treat all of you (especially Meng, since he is always amused by my office stories) to another funny email from work - relating to the same event - my 2 Bosses' birthday on last tues. ****************HERE IT GOES AGAIN***************** original photo From: Colleague W Message: "Hi colleagues, JUST WONDERING, WHO BEHIND BOSS?" [P.S: Boss is the one in middle and biggest size. And there was really one colleague behing him. Told you he was BIG size. haha] From: Colleague L Message: "WHO DO U THINK????? :) GHOST!!!" [P.S: Colleague L was the hidden "ghost" herself. LOL] From: JOEL Message: "And if you look at the photo, Colleague J is poking Colleague S' eyes! So mean!!!" Let's take a closer look. really poking the eyes! haha From: Colleague L Message: "HAHAHAHA!!! Exactly...... What else to spot?? Colleague M, i cannot see your eyes! Take photo also can sleep! Aiyoh.....!!!!" [P.S: See above - Colleague M is famous for being BLUR] From: JOEL Message: "she disco last night la." [P.S: GOD I LOVE MY REPLY!!! ] [P.P.S: Colleague M told us once she goes clubbing and we all were in utter shock] From: Colleague M Message: "Don't think bad of me... I didn't go disco many months already. Hai!" [P.S: she sounds like she really wants to return to disco!] [P.S: who even uses the word DISCO for clubbing now?? ME! haha] From: Colleague W Message: "Colleague M, if that is the case, PLS explain what happen to your eyes? What you do at night until take photo also can sleep???" [P.S: don't you love my colleagues???] From: Colleague M (now, the accused!) Message: Aiyo, "maybe i smile too hard that time, til my cheek cover my eyes. Yesterday night, i'm at home. I"M INNOCENT." [P.S: love that she is so serious about clearing her name when we're joking] From: JOEL Message: "Smile very hard meh? DON'T BLUFF! Your mouth ONE LINE only!" ![]() ---RECAP--- i'm so getting retribution! From: Colleague L Message: look yourself in the mirror... Must practice how to smile :))))) REMEMBER THIS & ALWAYS REMEMBER TO SMILE! (unless u want to suffer the same fate!) Jloe || 10:41 PM || 0 comments
After so long, i've FINALLY changed my blogskin! haha. Have been using the previous basic template ever since i revived my blogger spirit with music.city.soul. But since my HTML screwed up the on monday (my blog literally became a page full of symbols! freak the hell out of me. haha), i was forced to salvage the situation. So why not change the skin at the same time! (actually the previous template was un-recoverable... ha).Sunday, May 17, 2009 I really dig this blogskin haha 1) It's so... POSH The background is super classy i think, giving off an high-class air about it. I've always adored royalty (and i like being a bit proud haha) so this just encapsulated all. 2) It's so... BRITISH There is a UK flag! I finally found a place for my favourite symbol :) Plus the British culture has awed me for the longest time, and triggering my passion for music (especially British music... which led to all things European and now, Swedish!). So it is definitely something i felt was something missing in the previous design that i had to bring out this time round. The formatting is not completely to my liking so i'll still be making some changes :) Do give me your comments on it! (only nice comments haha) ****************************SHORT UPDATE***************************** Tuesday was the birthday of two of my bosses in office, so there was a mini celebration. Photos! (like finally) looks big but it's REALLY small (it's a brownie cake) sumptous meal (there was even KFC!) birthday bosses there's me, there's me... (but you have to look very close to see) But in fact the funny thing happened AFTER the celebration. We were looking through the photos after the mini-celebration and i saw an UGLY photo of me which i decided to email my colleagues to warn them to NOT post on facebook (i control my facebook very strictly haha) ~~~~~~~~~~~SO THE EMAIL CHAIN GOES~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Joel / To: Colleagues Message: "If u are going to post the photos on facebook, DON"T POST THIS PHOTO! I look very ugly haha..." the unglam photo [P.S: I am so honest right?] From: Colleague W / To: Colleagues Message: "WHY NOT! LOOK everyone post like a MANNEQUIN! Good View!" [P.S: I hate my mannequin la] From: Colleague J / To: Colleagues Message: "i want to post it whether you like it or not" [P.S: bastard colleague... haha] THEN FROM OUT OF NOWHERE... From: Colleague M / To:Colleagues Message: "Do you know i'm in between Person A and Person B? (see arrow in photo below) You see, i so slim, can hide..." ![]() [P.S: Colleague M is always ridiculed for being erm... plus-sized, by everyone] [P.P.S: the reply was OMG!] BUT THERE WAS MORE From: Colleague L / To: Colleagues Message: "Too Slim... That's why can eat more than us!!! Agree Everybody???" From Colleague M (the plus-sized one) herself To: Colleagues Message: "AGREE @_@" [P.S: let's say just there was more than a roar of laughter!] that was super funny. there were more funny exchanges that day, which i might share another day. haha. ^^^MEANWHILE ON THE SIDELINES^^^ From: Joel To: Colleague J ONLY (who said "i want to post it whether you like it or not") Message: "set the picture as private ok? PLS......" [P.S: god i'm so lame... but i'm serious haha] Jloe || 11:57 AM || 0 comments
Brief and simple stuff today. Nothing exciting worth mentioning recently.Monday, May 11, 2009 Some updates: 1) Still maintaining my healthy lifestyle :) - shall do a weight in tml! 2) Met my Sei-yeye Des for dinner after a month of random talk 3) Met up with Sharon and GML on friday night for dinner/catchup 4) Completed my online course but i didn't feel i learn much. God i'm so lazy now. 5) Met up with Krys and Yuk for supper and 2nd sleepover 6) Met up with Krys for my Vesak OIL today for random shopping Random stuff: 1) I'm dyed my hair for almost a month and i've hardly taken any pictures to show prove of it! *Camwhore session HINT* [P.S: I also get (really) irritated when people say my hair don't suit me. Lol. haha] 2) I chatted briefly to Yang Sis (after so long) on MSN and she was saying she read my blog and felt bad that i kinda didn't mention that i wanna see her. So lemme say this: I WANNA SEE U! [P.S: I wanna see all my friends seriously - Meng, Ter, Krys, Yang Sis, Kenny, Army friends etc etc, i wanna see all of you! Call me Call ME CALL ME (or vice versa)!] 3) Jen told me on MSN that outings (are) "no fun without me". I actually don't think i'm really a fun person haha. But that was nice of her. So thanks :) haha. [P.S: Maybe she misses my sarcasm. I miss it too! Have been practising on Krys/Yuk only haha] 4) I kinda think this is really quite a DRY month (though literally it's not, cause i've been to the pool like twice a week? haha). I mean socially, and on facebook :( Friends/people around me are not quite happy-clappy as usual (must be the weather!), so i'm really hope things will turn positive for all asap alright :) [P.S: I'm all ears for all your problems.] 5) Although socially things are quite bland now, i kinda don't feel it, cause i'm so filled with super nice Swedish-pop music! And probably the most exciting this week is this: makes u question my definition of "exciting" right? haha A collage of singles from all my favourite swedish singers (let me remind you they sing in ENGLISH!). It's my wallpaper now, replacing my love Lauren Conrad. [P.S: The Hills is getting so stale now... Thank God for swedish music!] Jloe || 9:28 PM || 0 comments
A little update from me here, nothing significant has happened anyway (since when has ANYTHING significant happened? sighs.. haha)Monday, May 4, 2009 But if i really really had to squeeze out one, that would be me dyeing my hair brown for the first time! haha. It actually happened last last sunday but i haven't exactly "announced" it (like who cares...) since it's not a big deal (i think haha). I've always wondered if i will ever dye my hair since there's the nature theory of "if it's made to be black, then why should you change it", over the irresistable theory of "change". haha. Well, i succumbed to the second one and my hair is brown now. Well, not exactly brown brown, but dark inconspicuous brown. Nothing too flashy. Just that if you see me in the different light, and i mean literally, yups, your dear Joel's hair is brown. Chocolate brown and, as McDonald's once said, I'M (kinda) LOVIN' IT haha. The most eye-opening fact about the dyeing experience was actually how fast it was. Put on that dye, wait for thirty minutes, wash it off and VOI....LA, it's brown! So far the response has been good so that's comforting to know haha. The weirdest comment came from my grandma who said "You're become BRAVE-R". I must dye it blond to show my ultimate boldness next time (you wish). haha Moving on, last wed, i finally managed to meet up Bee Bee, Monkey as well as Siny for a simple dinner at suburban, i-never-go-there Choa Chu Kang. (Maybe i never visit CCK because of some bad blood between a college friend and me haha. jk) We ate at Subway that night since little miss Monkey recommended the value set (recession alert!) and we all agreed. But i will say this again, I DON"T LIKE SUBWAY. I love fast food to death but that does not include Subway. It's just not my type of food. I SOLEMNLY SWEAR I WILL NOT HAVE SUBWAY FOOD EVER. (unless i'm forced) Well, it the usual story-telling and stuff. After dinner we moved on to the library to talk some more - and for me, opportunities to make snide sarcastic remarks on Monkey since she's so bully-able (ok, to put it nicely, she can play along with my jokes, which is a good trait :) haha) The day ended with a mystery surrounding my chinese name, which was later very unexpectably revealed on facebook. Damn. Friday was the long awaited LABOUR DAY! And i of course i wanted to go out. And so i called upon Ter-weeds and BBQ which stayed for a while with us to shop etc. After BBQ left, it was down to us "Ter-rific Two" doing our regular shopping. It was a FRUITFUL day since i managed to buy TWO NEW T-SHIRTS! Uber-nice t-shirts in my possession - the idea is so great AND TRUE haha. It's been long since i bought any nice clothing, especially t-shirts so it really was retail therapy. We settled at Ashtons for dinner where i ordered the gi-normous serving of the Double-Up chicken Chop (my choice: Crispy and BBQ). The BBQ was literally chicken feet since i was famished by the time we got our seat at the super-long queue Ashtons. The crispy one was the hard one to swallow. But still it was an improvement, and all for Operation 60! haha. Then the next two days, i just slacked at home and just rest. Though REST for me = search for nice nice (european) music! I can't go wrong with music. haha. And it's back to work today. SIGHS. Awaiting my off-in-lieu for Vesak day now! haha. Jloe || 9:59 PM || 0 comments
April is GONE GONE GONE! It's so scary to feel that time passes so fast la... (do i say this everytime? haha) Anyway, a lookback on my April:Sunday, May 3, 2009 1) Supper and Stayover April started really nicely with Krys and Yuk in a great night of laughter and insults =X haha. 2) Sunburnt Sentosa The first time i REALLY REALLY got sunburnt was this Sentosa trip. Proves i don't have "thick skin" then haha. And no more Nipplegates from now!!! 3) Ter-rific Time Now that i'm no longer "Lunch Buddy", maybe i'm "Going-out Buddy"? hahaha :) 4) Hush Hush Health Check Recurring gastric problems aside, "High" blood pressure was new on my "reasons to exercise" list. What a shocker... haha. Thanks to CH for accompanying me though! 5) Moment with Meng Meng always makes me realise things i don't. Like I can quite mean. haha. Or like i really need to exercise. And i did ok! 6) Operation 60! Go go 60! (this is so lame haha) 7) Regulars There is Kenny, Bee Bee and co added the finest finishing touches to this nice month :) Up next month... 1) more exercise! 2) more eating! 3) more music (from the "unknown")! 4) more.... meetups! Generally if work is fine, my life is more fine haha. Well, that's all. More to come i hope... haha. Jloe || 9:01 PM || 0 comments |
