Holiday Special: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
HCMC was a short getaway from Singapore with my melodifriend, Daph, as well as making four more new friends :) haha... Will definitely miss all the roadside stalls in which we tried so many different local delights (+alligator meat!)!! A very different country with it's own unique culture and sad history, which i can't wait to return to!
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam: 13th - 17th December 2011
13th Dec: Arrival at HCMC Airport Transfer to Beautiful Saigon Hotel Ate the so-claimed (by the group) BEST Pho in HCMC :DD haha Orientation around Saigon (District 1) Experiencing HCMC frentic traffic for the first time! :)
14th Dec: Mekong Delta Day Tour Depart for My Tho Boat ride through the natural canal (stilt houses, fruit plantations along river sides) Seeing how a Coconut Candy Factory works Lunch at the orchard Rowboat Ride through Mekong river - conical hats! ^ Watching Vietnamese traditional music performance Making way back to HCMC Shopping and eating at the Night Market
15th Dec: Cao Dai Temple & Cu Chi Tunnel Day Tour Cao Dai Temple aka Holy See Temple - mix of Buddhism, Catholicism and Confucianism Observe the daily mass prayer session by Cao Dai followers Super budget lunch :'( Seeing and experiencing the Cu Chi tunnel :)) Making way back to HCMC Exploring other parts of Saigon
16th Dec: Shopping Day! Arrive at Cholon - Chinatown (all wholesale, nothing to buy...) Making our way to An Dong - major shopping for the girls at An Dong Plaza Lunch at roadside stall Back to hotel for short rest Shopping at Ben Tanh Market - bought many souvenirs and some clothes :D Water Puppet Show! :D funny and interesting (esp lazy fairies) haha... Back to shopping at Night Market
17th Dec: Self-guided City Tour Visited War Remnants Museum - understood Vietnam so much better after visiting it :'( Saw Reunification Palace Saw Notre Dame Cathedral (beautiful!) Saw Old Central Post Office (has a old-school charm like all other post offices) :D Made our way to City Hall (Ho Chi Minh Statue!) :) Returning to Ben Tanh Market for last minute shopping! Lunch at Pho 2000 (where Bill Clinton had a bowl of Pho in 2000! LOL) Transfer to Airport Back to Singapore :/
